How to make a Roblox skin with AI

A step-by-step guide to making a classic Roblox shirt or pants with Skinomics: write a prompt, generate the template, check it on a 3D avatar, edit it and upload it to Roblox.

In short

Type the outfit you want, choose Shirt or Pants, generate, check it on the 3D avatar, polish it in the editor and save or upload it. Uploading to Roblox costs 80 Robux per item, charged by Roblox.

What you need

  • An iPhone or iPad with iOS / iPadOS 15 or later, and the free Skinomics app.
  • For each AI generation: either watch one short ad, or have Skinomics Pro ($5.99 a month or $25.99 a year in the US).
  • To upload to Roblox: a Roblox account and 80 Robux per shirt or pants. To sell items you also need Roblox's ID verification and a Plus or Premium membership.

Step by step

  1. Open the Home tab and describe your outfit

Type what you want in the prompt box, or tap the mic and say it. Stuck for ideas? Tap a suggestion chip or shuffle them. Be specific about the garment, colors, materials and one or two details.

  2. Choose Shirt or Pants and generate

Tap send and pick Shirt (torso and arms) or Pants (legs and waist). Unlock the generation with a short ad or with Pro. With Pro you can also attach a reference photo to guide colors and style.

  3. Check it on the 3D avatar

The result opens on a 3D R15 avatar. Drag to rotate, pinch to zoom and use the light sliders to see the outfit from every side. Tap Screenshot to save a picture to Photos.

  4. Polish it in the template editor

Open the Editor (or the Create tab and a Shirt or Pants template). Draw with the pen or marker, add stickers, import an image, drop in shapes and arrange everything in layers. The guide overlay shows where each panel lands on the body. Tap Save when you're happy.

  5. Save, export or upload

Save the design to your Inventory, share the PNG from there, or tap the Roblox button in the avatar preview, sign in to Roblox and upload it with a name, description and price. Roblox charges 80 Robux per item and reviews it before it goes on sale.

Prompt ideas that work

StyleExample prompt
StreetwearBlack bomber jacket, orange sleeve stripes, white ribbed collar
CozyGreen flannel shirt over a white tee, rolled sleeves
Anime-inspiredNavy school blazer, red tie, gold buttons, white shirt cuffs
FantasySilver knight armor chest plate with blue cloth sash
TacticalOlive tactical vest with pouches over a grey long-sleeve shirt
Matching pantsOlive cargo pants, side pockets, black knee pads

Tips: name the garment first, then colors, then details. Leave out brand names and logos, because Roblox moderation rejects them.

How the Roblox clothing template works

Classic Roblox shirts and pants use a 585×559 pixel template. The front and back of the torso are 128×128 panels, the sides and arm faces are 64×128, the tops and bottoms are 128×64 or 64×64. A shirt covers the torso and arms; pants cover the legs and waist. Skinomics generates designs on this layout, so they wrap correctly on the avatar.

Note from Roblox: many user-made avatar bodies on the Marketplace don't support 2D classic clothing, so test on a standard body if something looks off.

Making a matching outfit

A shirt and pants are separate items on Roblox. Generate the shirt first, then write a pants prompt that repeats its colors ("black joggers with orange side stripes"). Save both to your Inventory and preview them together.

FAQ

How long does it take to make a Roblox shirt with AI?

Writing a prompt and checking the result takes a couple of minutes. Editing details in the template editor takes as long as you like.

Do I need to know how to draw?

No. The AI makes the design from your words. The editor is there if you want to add stickers, text-free shapes or your own drawing.

Why does my shirt look wrong on some avatars?

Roblox notes that many user-made avatar bodies on the Marketplace don't support 2D classic clothing. Preview it on a standard body.

Why was my upload rejected?

Roblox moderation rejects items with brand logos, copied designs, other people's intellectual property, excessive text or content against its Community Standards. Remove those and try again.

Can I upload without the app?

Yes. Export the PNG from your Inventory and upload it as a classic shirt or pants in the Roblox Creator Hub. The 80 Robux fee applies either way.

Can I make a T-shirt instead of a shirt?

Skinomics makes classic shirts and pants. Classic T-shirts are a different, square image that only shows on the front of the torso.
